The Fortinian Confederacy (Fortinian: Confederation Fortinian, pronounced: [konfederat͡sjon fortiɲan]) is a confederation of XX constituent members. It's administrative center is located at the Centro Station in the Euburosan system.

Name

The name comes from the most brilliant star in the confederacy, Fortinia which is located near the center of the territory within the Pinicola stellar cluster. It was also used as the basis for the name of the predecessor of the confederacy, the League of Fortinia.

History

Pre-FTL

It took the Fortinians about 55,000 standard years from the emergence of their civilization until their first colony outside of their home planetary system. Having mastered life-extending genetic modification which almost doubled their life expectancy, they had set out to establish astral colonies almost 700 years before discovering faster-than-light technology. Spacecrafts were able to travel to their closest planetary system with people fully living in them for the duration of the voyage thanks to the longer lifespan and the antimatter engines of the ships. The genetic modification trend started a long tradition of the Fortinians attempting to adapt to the environment instead of adapting the environment to their condition. This made the Fortinians the flexible Terran race it still is today, one that was able to colonize space even faster with the discovery of faster-than-light technology, the Quantum Drive.

League of Fortinia

Founded around 2,000 standard years ago the League of Fortinia was the predecessor of the Fortinian Confederacy and the first major interplanetary union over the region. It was also short-lived, having been around for about 500 years before disbanding and making way for the newly established Fortinian Confederacy.

The Fortinian Confederacy is administratively divided in 7 stellar clusters. The stellar clusters are purely administrative in function since the sovereign power remains vested in the constituent members. Their main use is to ensure the regional representation in the Constitutional organs of the Confederacy and in the general confederal spending.
